The Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks (RedCLARA) and the Advanced Computing System of Latin America and the Caribbean (SCALAC), signed, on September 26, 2019, in Turrialba, Costa Rica, within the framework of the Latin American High Performance Computing Conference (CARLA2019), a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in which they commit to establish cooperation guidelines with the aim of enhancing access to high performance computing (HPC) resources in the region.
At the signing ceremony, RedCLARA was represented by its Executive Director Luis Eliécer Cadenas and SCALAC by the president of its Board of Directors, Alvaro de la Ossa. Among the actions provided in the agreement are the constitution of the RedCLARA Computing Board of Directors, the development of connectivity plans and joint training programs and the integration into a single federated infrastructure of its cloud computing platforms.
For Luis Eliécer Cadenas, the agreement establishes the adequate basis for strengthening the academic and scientific community in Latin America. “By connecting, through academic networks, computer centers in the region, we will create conditions for all of us to grow. Our agreement has very specific commitments, which we will implement soon”, said the director.
The MoU between RedCLARA and SCALAC does not imply any type of binding legal obligation and will be valid for a period of 48 months.
