ILIA 2024

SCALAC Participates in ILIA 2024

On September 24, the second edition of the Latin American Artificial Intelligence Index (ILIA 2024) was held at the headquarters of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) in Santiago, Chile. The event brought together experts and government and technology authorities with the aim of strengthening the development of artificial intelligence (AI) in the region.

The event featured the participation of prominent experts and authorities from the governmental and technological sectors, who joined in a collective effort to boost the development of artificial intelligence in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The event took place in a context where artificial intelligence is recognized as an essential tool to address the multiple challenges faced by the region. The study, conducted by the National Center for Artificial Intelligence of Chile (CENIA) in collaboration with the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) and supported by several regional organizations, evaluated the situation of 19 countries in the region, measuring their level of readiness for artificial intelligence.

Philippe Navaux, president of the Advanced Computing System of Latin America and the Caribbean (SCALAC), participated in a panel where the progress and challenges for AI development were discussed. SCALAC played a key role in the development of ILIA 2024, with the collaboration of RedCLARA in facilitating regional cooperation.

The event also served as a platform to discuss the progress and challenges in AI adoption and development in the region. The second edition of ILIA 2024 promises to be a crucial space to foster dialogue and collaboration between governments, academia, businesses, and civil society, promoting strong AI governance and ensuring that its benefits are distributed equitably throughout the region.
