“Latin American Women in HPC Day” Promotes Greater Inclusion in Regional Supercomputing

March 11, 2025 – With over a hundred participants from across the region, the “Latin American Women in HPC Day”established itself as a key space for highlighting and supporting the role of women in High Performance Computing (HPC).
This initiative is part of the lead-up activities to CARLA 2024, organized by the Advanced Computing System for Latin America and the Caribbean (SCALAC).

A High-Level and Diverse Program

The online session was moderated by Tania Altamirano (Academic Relations Manager at RedCLARA) and Paola Buitrago (Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center). The event featured prominent researchers and professors from the region and beyond:

  • Paula Verhelet – University of Buenos Aires, Argentina

  • Carla Osthoff – National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC), Brazil

  • Carmen Heras – University of Sonora, Mexico

  • Cristina Boeres – Federal Fluminense University, Brazil

  • Patricia Tissera – Pontifical Catholic University of Chile
