New President of the SIGHPC Computing Continuum ACM Chapter

The Advanced Computing System for Latin America and the Caribbean (SCALAC) is pleased to congratulate Dr. Carlos Jaime Barrios on his appointment as President of the SIGHPC Computing Continuum ACM Chapter, a role he officially assumed on August 1, 2025.

The SIGHPC Computing Continuum ACM Chapter, part of the Special Interest Group on High Performance Computing (SIGHPC) of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), brings together researchers, academics, and professionals from around the world to promote knowledge and collaboration around the computing continuum: the seamless integration of edge computing, cloud, and high-performance computing infrastructures.

With an outstanding trajectory in HPC, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies, Dr. Barrios has been a key figure in strengthening the Latin American scientific community and in fostering international collaborations that promote equitable access to advanced computing resources.

His election as president is not only a recognition of his leadership but also a milestone for Latin America’s participation in high-level international forums, consolidating the region’s role in the development of an open, responsible, and inclusive digital innovation ecosystem.

From SCALAC, we celebrate this appointment and reaffirm our commitment to initiatives that foster cooperation between Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean, for the benefit of science, technology, and society.
