SCALAC Honors Jaime San Martín and Álvaro de la Ossa for Their Contributions to High-Performance Computing in Latin America

During CARLA 2026 in Córdoba, Argentina, SCALAC presented the Philippe Navaux Award 2026 to Professor Jaime San Martín of the University of Chile and the Mateo Valero Award to Álvaro de la Ossa. These distinctions recognize their contributions to advancing high-performance computing across Latin America.

Professor Jaime San Martín, a faculty member at the University of Chile’s Faculty of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and Scientific Director of the National Laboratory for High-Performance Computing (NLHPC), received the Philippe Navaux Award for his dedication to educating and mentoring new generations in advanced computing. The distinction highlights the essential role of talent development in strengthening the region’s scientific and technological capabilities.

Álvaro de la Ossa received the Mateo Valero Award in recognition of his contributions to high-performance computing in Latin America. This honor celebrates his work in supporting the development of the region’s HPC community.

The awards ceremony provided an opportunity to celebrate the people whose sustained commitment has helped advance Latin American supercomputing.
